Sourced globally for multi-industry applications, these materials provide new, sustainable solutions for today’s material problems
Straight From the Jury: 5 Materials You Need to Know About for July
MC# 1008501 Hybrid Metal Foam
Most of today’s metal foams are closed-cell, meaning every pore is completely encapsulated in a layer of metal. Inspired by the structure of bones, this newly developed open-cell metal foam is similar to a sponge as it’s porosity allows liquids and gases to flow through it while exhibiting excellent heat resistance. It is extremely strong and rigid, in relation to its weight. It is not only strong enough for use in impact protection systems, but it’s also able to absorb shock waves produced by detonation. Applications include automotive, aerospace, military, mass transportation, solar cells, architecture, consumer electronics, and the electrochemical industry.
MC# 1010701 Sane Membrane (PU) & Eco-Pur (PLA)
The only high-performance apparel fabric membrane to combine high breathability and waterproofing while staying 100% fluorine-free making it more sustainable. Unlike membranes that contain fluorine compounds, which pose a risk to both the environment and our health, this mineral-based membrane can be applied to garments in the form of a micro-thin membrane that shields against weather conditions. The company is also currently working on a biodegradable version for the future. Applications are for outdoor apparel and footwear but will soon be available for the construction and cosmetic industries.
MC# 864402 Invisiprint?
Instead of having to clean fingerprints off surfaces, this coating makes prints invisible from the start. Fingerprint deposits are made up of mostly oil and some water. This technology spreads the fingerprint oil along the surface, allowing light to pass through the oil without any refraction, making the presence of fingerprints invisible in some angles and greatly reduced at others. In addition, the coating offers excellent cleanability and extended durability without using fluoropolymers or toxic chemicals. Applications include metal, glass, and plastic surfaces for consumer electronics and sun-lenses.
MC# 832001 Thermoplastic Tape – Ribbon: Forj
The lightest yet strongest composite tape on the market that is also waterproof, moldable, re-moldable, and impermeable to almost all chemicals and extreme cold. It is made up of 50% polyester and 50% HDPE and is developed using a proprietary, super high speed automated process that intricately combines the two materials in a very controllable manner. The composite tape’s flexibility allows it to adapt to any necessary shape while its malleable characteristics enable it to create custom grips, handles, and rivets for outdoor gear, sports, toys, marine, first aid, agriculture, and home improvement projects.
MC# 1024101 REGABOND-S
Flexible, durable multi-use adhesive tape that uses micro-suction to provide strong bonding. Tiny suction cups bond onto any flat or dry surface and can be applied, reused and repositioned repeatedly. ?The format is created by laminating a PET film with double-sided tape onto an acrylic foam, applying the PE protection film on the other side, and roll-winding to a paper core. If the surface gets dirty, simply clean with a damp cloth to rejuvenate the adhesion. Applications include positioning pads for electronics, home appliances, automotive interiors, and general home use.
