UBQ?: Turning Everyday Trash into BioBased Plastic
This patented process by UBQ Materials takes recyclable items such as glass, metals, and minerals and extracts them for further recycling, while the remaining garbage such as food scraps (i.e. banana peels, chicken bones) dirty plastics, cartons, and papers are dried and milled into a powder.?The powder then enters a reaction chamber, where it is broken down and reconstituted as a bio-based plastic-like composite material.
During production, UBQ? uses little energy and no water, eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and residual waste byproducts. For every ton of material produced, the process prevents? 3-30 tons of CO2 from being created by keeping waste out of landfills and decomposing.
The material is typically used in concentrations of 30% to 100% of the finished product and is available in injection, extrusion, and compression molding grades.
Numerous applications are possible where the manufacturing of sustainable products is required. Some of these applications include bricks, beams, planters, cans, and construction materials.
